[EN] The photochemistry of three azobenzenes representing contrasting photochemical behaviors is described in the present work. Thus, Methyl Orange (MO, 4-[[(4-dimethylamino)phenyl]-azo]benzenesulfonic acid sodium salt, hereinafter (1) and 4-hydroxyazobenzene-4'-sulfonic acid (2) undergo in water fast photochemical proton shift, with decays in the microsecond timescale. In contrast to the previous cases, azobenzene-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid (3) undergoes photoisomerization in water. Chiral synthetic pseudopeptidic derivatives as triplet excited state quenchers

The behavior of 6 pseudopeptidic models, synthesized by connecting different protected amino acids (Trp, Tyr, Phe, and Lys) with various diamino spacers, as quenchers of the triplet excited state of tiaprofenic acid (and its methyl ester), has been investigated. A series of quenching constants have been determined, which depend on the nature of the quencher and on the stereochemistry of the excited drug. A significant degree of stereodifferentiation has been found for the peptidomimetic synthesized with Phe and Tyr linked by a piperazine bridge. Ethane-Bridged Zinc-Porphyrin Dimers in Langmuir-Shäfer Thin Films: Structural and Spectroscopic Properties

This work reports on the structural and spectroscopic properties of ethane-bridged Zn porphyrin dimers (1) in Langmuir-Scha¨fer (LS) thin films by combining scanning force microscopy (SFM) with film balance, UV-vis absorption, fluorescence, and nanosecond laser flash photolysis measurements. Results show that depending on the surface pressure the Langmuir films of pure 1 can be arranged in two different condensed phases, whereas SFM of the LS films shows characteristic fractal networks constituted by nanoscopic aggregates. Analysis of mebendazole binding to its target biomolecule by laser flash photolysis

[EN] Mebendazole (MBZ) and related anticancer benzimidazoles act binding the beta-subunit of Tubulin (TU) before dimerization with alpha-TU with subsequent blocking microtubule formation. Laser flash photolysis (LFP) is a new tool to investigate drug-albumin interactions and to determine binding parameters such as affinity constant or population of binding sites. Photophysical Properties of Oligo(phenylene ethynylene) Iridium(III) Complexes Functionalized with Metal-Anchoring Groups

[EN] The electrochemical and photophysical properties of a family of conjugated ligands and their iridium(III) cyclometallated complexes are described. They consist of a series of monocationic Ir-III bis-2-phenylpyridine complexes with p-phenylethynyl-1,10-phenanthroline ligands of different length. The structure of these ligands includes terminal acetylthiol or pyridine groups, which can provide good electrical contacts between metal electrodes. Cyclic voltammetry, absorption and emission spectroscopy, laser flash photolysis and density functional theory calculations reveal that the high conjugation of the diimine ligand affords small energy gaps between the frontier orbitals.
